包装机械是国民经济的重要产业之一，承担着人民生活、繁荣城乡市场、扩大出口创汇、为国家建设积累资金的重要任务，对促进国民经济协调发展和实现国民经济与社会发展的总体战略目标关系极为密切。改革开放以来，我国包装行业得到了长足的发展，面貌发生了巨大的变化，已经形成有相当规模和一定经济水平、门类齐全、能基本满足国内需求又有一定国际竞争能力的生产体系。可以这样说没有包装机械的发展就没有今天繁荣的多样化的产品。

以电子技术、计算机技术等为代表的高新技术的迅猛发展，不仅促使了国民的生活水平日益提高，以及产品升级换代周期的缩短，而且使得机械产品的性能不断的提高与完善。这尤其在包装机械方面，物资生活的提高已经不能满足人们的需要，现在更多的是提倡精神文明的富有。人们已不像八十年代那样只求填饱肚子，我们现在更注重于追求各种食品的卫生状况怎样？是否方便快捷？还有一点也是最重要的一点——食品的外包装。古人云：“秀色可餐”。用现在通俗一点话来说：“看到食品漂亮的外包装会使人的心情愉快，从而使得食欲也会增加的。”这就我们的主题拉近距离了。现在市场用的最多包装类型就是三边封和中封的袋子。

这是因为包装机械生产的工艺原理和工艺过程比较复杂。包装机械受力一般不是很大，因此强度计算不是很重要。
